Check your corners and creeks for Spiders

Most people generally love animals still there is a dividing line between the cute and cuddly domestic pets and the dread pests that infest the home and plague our lives. If you have ever suffered through a pest  infestation or generally have a dislike for those most annoying and even dangerous of invaders, then this is the series for you that will tell you about things like termite barriers and ways and means to beat those pests. The animal kingdom is a hierarchy of predator and prey and this results in some fairly brutal occurrences. While it is never nice to see an animal we like die, some people take pleasure in seeing a pest get taken down, so here are some parasites that torture our most hated pests.

Spiders have an ominous, but often undeserved reputation.  Though most spiders are venomous and considered predators, of the thousands of species found all over the world, but a select few are actually considered a health threat.  In fact, spiders are actually helpful in controlling other pests in the home or garden since they feed on other insects and spiders.  They generally bite and inject venom into their prey.  Spiders, however, rarely bite humans.

Although spiders are often unpopular, the venom of most species is not quite toxic to human beings, usually resulting in no more than a slight swelling, inflammation, or itching sensation. Most spiders’ fangs are too small or weak to puncture human skin. Spiders usually will not attempt to bite unless accidentally trapped against the skin or grasped, although some species actively guard their egg sacs or young.

Spiders are one of the most despised pests in the world and with good reason; we have many of the most deadly spider here in Australia, making the fear entirely rational. This might make you feel a bit better then. Parasitic wasps target spiders, making their lives, and deaths, a total misery. The wasp stings the spider, temporarily paralysing it so that it can lay an egg in the spider’s abdomen. The egg hatches and the larva sucks the blood out of the spider. The wasp larva then forces the spider to build it a cocoon out of silk. When the spider is done the wasp larva kills the spider and moves into the cocoon.
